Description and Objectives:
This course explores selected works of William Shakespeare from the perspective of a theater or literature professional preparing to present his works onstage or in a classroom. In completing the course, students will acquire a) techniques for analyzing and
speaking Shakespeare’s verse and prose and b) skills necessary to evaluate and utilize the wide variety of Shakespearean
playtexts available to the contemporary reader, performer, scholar, and teacher.
Upon completion of this THEA 395, successful students will be able to:
+ identify how different social, cultural & historical contexts have shaped theater
+ write effectively
+ critique theatrical performance using appropriate analytical, critical & historical language & framework
