Final MRST talk of the fall semester is TODAY!

The Medieval & Renaissance Studies fall 2016 lecture series concludes this Thursday, November 17, at 4:30 p.m. in the Trible Library, room 170. Dr. Jessica Apolloni (English Department) will give a talk titled “Contesting Legal Power in the Age of Shakespeare.”

Early modern English authors confronted aggressive censorship policies when writing for public audiences. This talk will highlight the ways in which writers could use Italian settings and stories to critique English governmental power while also avoiding harsh censorship. Through her analysis of John Webster’s Italian revenge tragedy “The White Devil,” Dr. Apolloni will illustrate how Shakespeare and his contemporaries sparked wider public reflection on legal authority in society.

We look forward to seeing you all there!
